Behind the microscope

PhD in Pharmacology, Tulane University

Senior Manager, Clinical Science

A Better TomorrowTM, to me, means developing and testing new products that are potentially less harmful than combustible cigarettes for our consumers. This testing includes using science from in vitro to clinical studies to build the science to support this idea and submit this work to regulatory bodies.

Role at Reynolds

I am currently involved in developing new oral and lung in vitro models to evaluate the impact of our products on these cellular models. Additionally, I work on characterizing the aerosol from our products that is used to expose these models as well as the exposure systems we use. These require me to collaborate with others both internally and externally, read the scientific literature, and publish our findings.

Have you always wanted to be a scientist?

I enjoyed science classes growing up; however, I did not plan on being a scientist. It was not until the summer of my junior year of college when I had a job as a laboratory technician that ignited my passion to be a scientist. I was able to continue this job during my senior year and had the opportunity to discuss with a variety of scientists and realize this was my career path.

What does A Better TomorrowTM mean to you?

A Better TomorrowTM, to me, means developing and testing new products that are potentially less harmful than combustible cigarettes for our consumers. This testing includes using science from in vitro to clinical studies to build the science to support this idea and submit this work to regulatory bodies. I am proud that my work is being used to support this idea.

Greatest career achievement (thus far)?

My greatest career achievements include working and collaborating with four diverse groups to develop a new in vitro model for use in multiple different applications. Another achievement is how I have been able to transition from widely different scientific disciplines and grown immensely in my career.
